Milton Glaser, creator of famous icons like the I Love NY logo, uses lines and rhythm in many of his works. Below is an example where he conveyed the design principle very nicely. It is for the menu of the Jean George restaurant in New York. The cover for the menu:

He used the repetition of the basic square with 7 lines, rotated, to make a pattern, creating rhythm at the same time. He put that pattern into everything of that restaurant's to tie everything together.
